American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
Class Description
The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Program is the most recently updated program (r06) that the American Red Cross offers. The program is designed to be conducted in several modules. After successful completion, several certifications may be obtained. The program includes Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. The program content includes patron surveillance, water rescues and first aid. The program also includes training on how to provide care for adults, infants and children suffering from respiratory and cardiac emergencies. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Lifeguard and First Aid Certification valid for 3 years and a CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification valid for 1 year.
Policies
1. Must be at least 15 years old by the completion of the course
2. Must attend and actively participate in all class sessions
3. Make-Ups for missed material are not available
4. NO REFUNDS GRANTED AFTER THE 1ST CLASS
5. Swim Goggles can only be used for the 300 yard swim
6. All body piercing and jewelry must be removed during water training and testing
7. Participants must wear appropriate Swimwear. Males not gym shorts. Females are requires to wear a one piece suit
Pre-Requisites/Pre-Test
The pre-test consists of swimming skills that will help the instructor determine if the candidates abilities are enough to participate in the program.
The skill test includes:
1. 300 yard (12 pool lengths) continuous swim. Then swim must include:
- 100 yards front crawl
- 100 yards breaststroke
- 100 yards choice of front crawl and/or breaststroke
2. Swim 20 yards, surface dive to bottom of pool (7-10ft deep), retrieve a 10lb brick, return to the surface and swim back 20 yards to your original start point. This must be completed within 1 minute and 40 seconds
American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor

American Red Cross material - upon successful completion, you will recieve all certifications required to be a lifeguard instructor

Must be 17 years of age by the end of class

You have the option to renew your basic lifeguarding r06 certifications for additonal $14

Participants must possess and show proof of Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) or pay $7 to obtain this certification.

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

Designed to teach instructor candidates to teach all American Red Cross swimming and safety courses with the exception of Lifeguarding

Students should bring a swim suit, 2 towels, highlighter, writing utensils and paper to each class

Must be 16 years ols by the end of the class
